50 years ago today, Norway unveiled the American War Memorial at Vestre Gravlund. Why? Because during WWII, around 30 American soldiers died in Norway. In 1946, they were brought home or reburied in U.S. cemeteries in Europe — in the first-ever airborne return of fallen soldiers. Norwegian veterans made sure we’d never forget them.
