Netley Creek, near Selkirk, Manitoba earned the nickname "River of Death" or "Nee-bo-win Seepee" in the 1780s after Indigenous people discovered the bodies of a large Cree and Assiniboine camp, a death attributed to either a deadly smallpox outbreak or a Dakota Sioux attack.
