HISTORY: The Cariñosa was the Philippines’ national dance until it was replaced with Tinikling. The Cariñosa originated from the Spanish colonial era. “Cariñosa” means “loving” in Spanish, as the dance is supposed to convey flirtation and courtship between a couple. The men are wearing barongs and the girls are wearing baro’t sayas (meaning blouse and skirt). Some of our parents had to learn this dance in school growing up. Hopefully, we make them proud.
