Jominy end quench test This test makes it possible to compare the hardenability of steel. A steel specimen of certain specified dimensions is heated in a furnace to achieve austenitization. Then, quickly, the specimen is placed on a support and an ascending water flow is allowed to pass. The idea is to abruptly cool one end of the specimen, better known as a one-way quench, and slowly cool the other end to room temperature.
