CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Heavy amounts of precipitation occured in eastern Iowa, but most of it fell as rain. Minnesota is digging itself out of a major winter storm system that dumped a foot of snow on Wednesday morning. Snow started falling on Tuesday afternoon/evening but intensified overnight, causing havoc on the roads, causing the suspension of bus services in the Twin Cities, and at one point leaving more than 11,000 households without power.

Parts of Iowa have received even more rain and snow in the past 24 hours after a blizzard swept through earlier in the week.

A dangerous storm system is expected to sweep through the St. Louis region Friday evening, bringing the potential for destructive winds and fast-moving tornadoes, with the metro area under a Level 4 out of 5 risk for severe weather.
