With the 2025 hurricane season starting June 1, NOAA forecasters announced their prediction for how many tropical storms and hurricanes to expect this year.

The 2025 hurricane season is officially underway. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting above-normal hurricane activity. NOAA is forecasting a range of 13 to 19 total named storms.

"The 27 billion-dollar disasters in 2024 resulted in $182.7 billion in damages–higher than the average annual amount of events (23) and the average annual cost ($149.3 billion) for the past five years," the NOAA said in a report.
