Thousands of people attended May Day protests across the country Thursday in response to the Trump administration’s controversial moves against immigrants and federal workers over its first 100 days.

Hundreds of people in Santa Barbara joined a national battlecry on Thursday to salvage democracy within the United States. The lawn of the Santa Barbara Courthouse was packed for this local rendition of the country’s “May Day” protests, which traditionally recognize workers’ rights and labor unions.

Labor rallies in large cities swelled with demonstrators focused on immigration, education and worker’s rights. But protesters also rallied at small-town schools and city halls in Trump country.
