Russia said Friday it has used the new Oreshnik ballistic missile along with other weapons in a massive strike on Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said four people were killed and at least 22 wounded in the capital overnight.

Russia carried out a strike near Ukraine’s western border with an intermediate-range ballistic missile known as Oreshnik, sending a threatening signal to Kyiv’s allies amid a widespread air attack that targeted energy infrastructure and damaged apartment buildings.

It is only the second time Moscow has deployed the hypersonic ballistic missile, which was first used to hit Dnipro in November.

Ukraine's commander in chief said December was the first month that its drones "neutralized" roughly as many Russians as were called up.

The attack was just the second time that Moscow had launched the nuclear-capable intermediate-range ballistic weapon.

Efforts are continuing to restore services in Dnipropetrovsk, officials say, after wide-spread attacks in the southeast.
