The New York Rangers entered the 2025 NHL Draft with eight picks, though not one in the first round. For just the second time since 2016, they don’t have a pick until Day 2, after the Rangers sent the No. 12 overall pick this year to the Pittsburgh Penguins to complete the J.T. Miller trade.

The New York Rangers had to wait 43 picks to make their first selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, but snagged what most experts considered one of the best values of the second round. Malcolm Spence, a forward from the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League, was taken by the Blueshirts with pick No. 43 overall on June 28.

The New York Rangers were one of 12 teams that didn’t have a pick in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday. But they’ll be busy Saturday, when the Rangers are scheduled to make eight selections in Rounds 2-7 on Day 2 of the draft.
