The Penn State women’s volleyball coach was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in September. She continued coaching without missing a practice and became the first woman to guide a team to the NCAA national championship.

The U.S. gymnast then thanked ESPN for highlighting women’s sports more often in recent years, before cutting her speech short. It was Biles' second time winning the award for best female athlete, having last done so in 2017. Overall, the U.S. gymnast has won seven ESPY Awards throughout her decorated career.
