Ariana Grande had a "Wicked" reunion with Cynthia Erivo during her opening performance at the 2025 Oscars on Sunday night.

Despite opening the show with three songs, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande both went home without Oscars for their work in Wicked. Erivo had tough competition going up against Demi Moore's triumphant return in The Substance and the eventual winner,

Grande first delivered a moonlit rendition of “Over the Rainbow,” which Judy Garland famously sang as Dorothy in the movie “The Wizard of Oz.” Erivo then belted her version of “Home” from the 1975 Broadway musical “The Wiz,” a Dorothy number originally performed by Stephanie Mills onstage and by Diana Ross in the 1978 film adaptation.

The show opened with a montage of films set in Los Angeles, a tribute to the city after wildfires ravaged the city in January. Then the stars of “Wicked” launched into a series of performances from “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and the works it has inspired.
