DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Israel launched an expanded assault on Iran on Sunday, with direct strikes targeting its energy industry and Defense Ministry headquarters, while Tehran unleashed a fresh barrage of missiles blamed for the deaths of four people and injuries of many others.
Israel carried out an airstrike on Iran’s Mashhad Airport, targeting a refueling aircraft. Another drone attack hit a gas facility at South Pars. Iran condemned the moves, calling them dangerous. Officials warned the incidents could involve wider regional conflict.
National security experts warn that Israel's attack on Iran shows why Chinese land and asset purchases in the U.S. pose a significant threat to American security.
"This confrontation will not end with last night's limited actions and Iran's strikes will continue, and this action will be very painful and regrettable for the aggressors," Fars reported, citing senior military officials.
An Israeli drone has struck a refinery in Iran’s South Pars gas field Saturday, semiofficial Iranian news agencies reported. If confirmed, it would mark the first Israeli attack on Iran’s oil and natural gas industry.
