With the defeat to the Mets on Saturday (8-2), the Rockies lost their seventh straight game and fell to 2-16 under interim manager Warren Schaeffer. Colorado also extended a major league record with its 22nd straight series loss.

By dropping Tuesday's showdown with the Chicago Cubs, the Colorado Rockies made history by locking in their 21st consecutive series loss dating back to last season.

The Rockies have nine wins in their first 54 games of the season. It is a historically bad start. And yet somehow, that record flatters them.

1. The Rockies are one of just two teams since 1901 to have fewer than 10 wins in their first 55 games, joining the 1904 Washington Senators. Colorado did manage to avoid the major league record, as the 1895 Louisville Colonels mustered only eight wins in their first 55 games of the year.

On Monday, a series opener is on the schedule, with the Chicago Cubs (32-21) hosting the Colorado Rockies (9-44) at 2:20 p.m. ET. The Cubs are heavily favored (-337 moneyline odds to win) when they host the Rockies (+268). The Cubs will start Jameson Taillon (3-3) against the Rockies and Carson Palmquist (0-2).

The Colorado Rockies, after being swept by the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, are off to the worst 50-game start in modern MLB history.
