Max Verstappen’s Instagram apology on Monday for his collision with George Russell in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, admitting the move was “not right” and “shouldn’t have happened”, was not before time.

In the latest ‘Mad Max’ incident of the four-time defending world champion’s career, Verstappen rammed into Mercedes’ George Russell with two laps left in the Spanish Grand Prix after Red Bull ordered the Dutchman to let Russell past into fourth place. It was a move McLaren’s Lando Norris described as like something out of Mario Kart.
