The folks behind Wordle are making what's old new again with the return of previously used words.
That number was whittled down to 2,309 by the NYT after it bought Wordle in January 2022, and then increased by an unknown amount over the next couple of years, with the addition of solutions such as SNAFU (game #659) and OOMPH (#1662).
The New York Times kept readers on their toes in 2025, thanks to its stable of popular games. There were more than 11.2 billion puzzles solved on New York Times Games this year, led by 4.2 billion Wordle puzzles solved and 1.6 billion solves in Connections.
