ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is taking a bigger role in immigration enforcement efforts around the state. Over the weekend, troopers helped federal agents in Fort Myers. Last week, Gov. Through today’s agreement, ICE will delegate the authority to the Florida Highway Patrol to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency’s direction and oversight. This includes identifying and removing already incarcerated criminal aliens who are eligible for removal before they are re-released into the community.
