WASHINGTON (WHSV) - Over 40 years ago on Nov. 13, 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. The memorial took on a simple shape, but it was one that was packed with meaning. The famous V-shaped, black granite wall bears the names of nearly 58,000 Americans who died in the conflict.

Memorial Day is observed the last Monday of May each year, and is meant to honor all who served and gave their lives for their country.
