US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said late Monday that El Salvador’s president has offered to accept deportees from the US of any nationality, including violent American criminals now imprisoned in the United States.

El Salvador has agreed to house violent US criminals and receive deportees of any nationality, in an unprecedented deal that has alarmed critics and rights groups.

El Salvador offered to house dangerous criminals deported by the U.S., including U.S. citizens and legal residents, in its jails. This arrangement was discussed during U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's meeting with President Nayib Bukele.
