Apple isn’t the only one eliminating the physical mute switch, as it did on the iPhone 15 Pro. Today, OnePlus, a prominent Android brand, announced that it is moving away from the alert slider in its future flagship offerings. Like the iPhone, it will instead adopt a button you can program to your heart’s desire.

Given that, it’s easy to imagine OnePlus doing something similar to the Action Button Apple introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro. The Action Button has a few pre-set options tied to a long-press, like silencing your phone or turning on the flashlight, but can also run complex iOS Shortcut automations, which I nerdily enjoy.

OnePlus is giving a heads-up about the change to its fans, who have been protective of the slider in the past.

Aside from iPhones, OnePlus is the only smartphone brand that continues to put a physical mute switch on its devices with the Alert Slider. The company temporarily gave up on the
