Tesla's long-awaited "Juniper" refresh of the Model Y has just launched in China.

The updated ‘Juniper’ Model Y has launched in China, featuring new headlights, a rear touchscreen display, and… a turn signal stalk.

Tesla launched a new version of the Model Y, its best-selling car, in China on Friday, hoping that a redesigned exterior and upgraded features inside will help it regain market share taken by rivals such as Xiaomi .

Tesla has quietly unveiled its facelifted Model Y with new styling that will help it keep up with rivals like Kia and Volvo. Though currently only available in the Asia Pacific region, the refreshed "Juniper" model is likely to appear stateside in the coming months.

Inside, Tesla has introduced ventilated seats and myriad ambient interior lighting extras to the refreshed Model Y, while the turn signals are now activated via a traditional stalk on Asia-Pacific models, rather than buttons on the steering wheel.

Tesla’s most recent redesign was for the Model 3 “Highland” that made its US debut last year, which also mainly changed the front and rear, along with other tweaks to make it quieter and improve the ride quality.

Tesla Model Y has been spotted in the wild without any camouflage, giving us our best look yet at the new design.

The update is the first major revamp for the Model Y since the electric compact crossover's debut in 2019. The most noticeable change is the new styling, which features a chiseled front end with a light strip that matches the design of the Cybercab robotaxi. A light strip also replaces the separate brake lights found on the current Model Y.

Model Y inventory is drying up after Tesla went on a year-end pricing tear. The EV world, meanwhile, is eying the Juniper refresh.
