WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — President Donald Trump on Friday told Pennsylvania steelworkers he’s doubling the tariff on steel imports to 50% to protect their industry, a dramatic increase that could further push up prices for a metal used to make housing, autos and other goods.

Trump’s shout-out to state Rep. Dan Meuser, who with Treasurer Stacy Garrity are the two main GOP contenders for governor in 2026, will surely raise some eyebrows in Keystone State political circles. “If you run, you have my support, totally, and you’ll win,” Trump said to Meuser, a strong Trump supporter like Garrity.
