CHANHASSEN, Minn. — The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning for much of central Minnesota and portions of western Wisconsin for Thursday night and Friday morning as brutally cold wind chills are expected in the region.
Agency officials warn commuters may have to contend with slippery road conditions on Tuesday morning, and staying outdoors too long may result in hypothermia or frostbite due to the subzero wind chills. Anyone who must go outside should dress in layers and cover exposed skin to reduce their risk, NWS recommends.
The National Weather Service issued the watch Wednesday afternoon for a the storm that’s expected to arrive this weekend, according to NWS Meteorologist Joe Curtis. “There’s increasing potential for a significant winter storm this weekend,” Curtis told MetroNews. The watch is for Saturday morning through Monday morning.
