The Republican-controlled Federal Trade Commission is abandoning a Biden-era effort to block Microsoft’s purchase of “Call of Duty” video game maker Activision Blizzard. In an order issued Thursday, the FTC said it had determined that “the public interest is best served by dismissing the administrative litigation in this case.”

Microsoft’s $75 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard cleared its final U.S. regulatory hurdle as the FTC dropped its challenge, capping a nearly two-year legal battle.

To appease regulator concerns, Microsoft carved out deals to bring Xbox games to non-Xbox streaming platforms and also continue to release games on non-Xbox platforms. Microsoft is indeed doing that, and for April 2025 in the US, five out of the top seven best-selling PS5 games were published by Xbox.
